Athirathram 2011 Vedic Yajna

Thanks to all for all the mails I received for the previous post on Athirathram 2011 Panjal. Its a great pleasure for all of us, who are eagerly waiting to witness the Vedic yajna, or sacrifice and one of the oldest surviving ritual - Athirathram. Athirathram recreates the Vedic rituals and yajnas performed during the Vedic age. Athirathram is conducted for 12 days by selected Namboothiri families of Kerala.

It is also expected that Frits Staal, professor pf philosophy and South Asian Languages at the University of California, Berkeley is coming to attend the rituals. The preperations have been going on by the main priests (Namboothiris).

Practicing of taittiriyam of Yajurveda by Poothillathu Ramanujan Somayajippadu, who is the ‘Yajamanan’ for the Athirathram and Kapra Sankaranarayanan Akkithiripad, ‘Yajamanan’ of the previous Athirathram. Practicing of Kaushithakam, Rig Veda by Cherumukku Vallabhan Somayajippadu and Naras Parameshwaran Namboothiri!

This year Athirathram is organised in Panjal, Thrissur, Kerala from April 4 to April 15, 2011.
